BOOKS ON IVORY
 I believe that there are only
two ways to really become knowledgeable about ivory. One is to find a
"mentor" who is willing to teach you, and the other is through
books, the next best way to learn how to identify ivory, how to build and
care for your collection, and how to become aware of the huge variety of
ivory objects available.
There are over 500 books
written about ivory, covering every aspect of collecting. Almost all are
now out-of-print, and they vary in their usefulness. I have sought expert
advice as to which are the most beneficial in providing good information
and being available at reasonable prices. I have listed those here by
category.
I attempt to keep copies of
these books in stock, but there will be times that a book is temporarily
unavailable. Each price reflects the cost of the last book sold of that
title. Replacement copies may be more or less, depending on my cost. I
will quote current prices and shipping costs at your request.
Every book is in what I
describe as very good (VG) or better condition, unless otherwise noted.
That means that each book is clean and tight. Dust jackets may be worn,
torn, or missing, but I am offering these books for the information they
provide, and not as financial investments. Many books can be as much as
100 years old.
Information can be provided on
these books, but space does not allow for me to describe each book. I have
